Reminder: in order to install and run SpamWars, you should already have Java 6 on your system. To check this, type java -version, into a terminal type window (for Mac Os X : Applications -> Utilitaires -> Terminal). The java version currently in place will be indicated. If you have less than version 1.6, the java version in your PATH is not recent enough and you will need to get Java version 1.6 and adjust your path with the command:

PATH=/path/de/mon/java/1.6:$PATH

To install SpamWars on your system, simlpy run the downloaded executable script : ./spamwars-personal-unix.bin in a terminal type window. DO NOT attempt to install by double-clicking on the script in your file-manager (explorer).

(make sure your script is in ’executable’ mode. If it is not, you can make it executable by changing the mode to : chmod +x spamwars-personal-unix.bin).

Once installed, you will automatically receive the license by e-mail in the mailbox of the account you have registered to be monitored. This license-message will be picked up by SpamWars automatically and your account will then be fully protected. Once a year, SpamWars will send you a reminder to renew your activation key.

For SpamWars to run automatically when you start up your computer, you can use the file : bin/boot.sh by copying it and renaming it as S99spamwars in the directory used to run for your new run level (ex : /etc/rc3.d)

Before modifying the settings on your e-mail account (Thunderbird, Opera, Eudora etc ) as indicated in the Installation Summary, do not forget to pick up any mail one last time.
